Samuel Laing

Samuel Laing, Liberal Party, was elected as MP for the constituency of Orkney & Shetland on 11th January 1873, replacing Frederick Dundas. He served until 1885 when he was replaced by Leonard Lyell. He had previously served three terms as MP for Wick Burghs between 1852 & 1868.
Laing was also a British Railways administrator, an influential writer on science and religion.
Samuel Laing was born on 12th December 1812 and died on 6th August 1897.
