The Sandwick Social Club, in central Sandwick started out as a portacabin structure, the first pint being poured on the 18th December 1981, and the official opening by Mr Bruce, on the 3rd April 1982.
In 1984 the building was expanded with the addition of a large function hall, and lounge bar, making it the biggest club outside of Lerwick.
The bar facilities are open every night, to club members and guests.
The club celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a special function on the 21st April 2007.

The club entered the Grampian Television "Top Club" quiz 3 times.
In the 1989 competition they got to the final but were beaten by the Dundee Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.
As runners-up the team won £750 which was donated to 3 charities; Sandwick Youth and Community Centre; South Mainland Cancer Group; and Friends of Raeden, an Aberdeen hospital attended by children from Shetland.
In 1997 the team made it to the semi-finals.
Some of the same team members are taking part in a 2009 episode of the BBC 2 quiz show "Eggheads", under the name 'Sandwick Socializers'.
