The Scalloway Junior High School, which was opened in 1986, provides nursery, primary, and secondary education for the Scalloway area. Pupils from the Hamnavoe, Nesting, Tingwall, Whiteness, primary schools also advance to Scalloway for their secondary education.
Secondary education is provided up to secondary 4, with pupils continuing on to secondary 5 & 6 having to attend the Anderson High School in Lerwick. The old Scalloway school at the top of Mill Brae, on the east side of the new school building, is used for the nursery classes.

Closing

On December 8th as a cost-cutting measure, the Shetland Islands Council voted 13 in favour to 9 for closing the Junior High section of the school, with all secondary pupils attending the Anderson High School from Summer 2011.
