Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit
Scat Ness, (HU387093), is a long headland at the south tip of the Shetland Mainland.
To the east, across the West Voe of Sumburgh, lies Sumburgh Head. And to the west are Little Holm and Lady's Holm.
At the southern end of Scat Ness is the smaller Ness of Burgi, and just south from that lies Horse Holm.
The settlement on the ness is referred to as Scatness, with the main population being in the housing estates of Colonial Place and Sanblister Place.
The Jeany and Peggy was wrecked on the ness on December 21st 1794, as was the Johannes Foss on January 14th 1891, and the Strathtay on February 16th 1900.
