Shetlopedia:Editing Terminology
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit
Some of the simpler terminology you may find useful to use on Shetlopedia.
Linking to another wiki page
Note the end of address of the the page you want to linking. For example, the Burra article's page address is:
The address ends /Burra, so using two sets of square brackets to signify a link, type:
In summer, [[Burra]] is a nice location to visit.
You don't need to display the full name of the page, you can use an alias if you separate it from the real page name with a vertical bar:
In summer, [[Burra|this place]] is a nice location to visit.
Which will display:
- In summer, this place is a nice location to visit.
Adding an image?
First upload it, then to use the Image keyword and double-square brackets in your article:
Here's my picture of vikings: [[Image:grandOldVikingCenturies.jpg]]
If you want you image to appear as a small thumbnail which users can click on to see te fullsize image, use:
You can also put a small caption below your pictures:
[[Image:grandOldVikingCenturies.jpg|thumb|This is a typical Viking]]
Sign your name
You can sign your name and date on talk pages if you use 3 or 4 tilde ( ~ ) signs.
~~~~ = Shetlopedian name and date, eg "My Wiki Name 15:26, 11 July 2006 (BST)" ~~~ = Shetlopedian name only, eg "My Wiki Name"
