Shetlopedia Logo

Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit

Jump to: navigation, search

Image:Shetlopedia.com Logo.jpg

I've created this page to open discussion about the Shetlopedia logo. I think it's time for a change.

Does anyone have any comments or suggestions about what should appear on it. If we can agree what we want for a logo, then I'll get it designed by a professional logo designer.

Ideas:

Keep it simple.
Don't try to put lots of pictures onto it.
Must look good when displayed on the Internet, or printed on paper
Must look good in black and white or colour

Please feel free to add your thoughts here.

I, or we ;-), think that the Shetland flag with Shetlopedia.com on the vertical white bar would look rather good, think that something with the flag is a must....

Background: Something characteristically associated with Shetland like a well known landmark, the typical elevation of a Shetland Ha, a rigged sixareen &c. in different shades of blue
Overlay: The Shetland flag

Landmark version ... ;-)
Landmark version ... ;-)

Islandhopper logo looks suitably good. We will see few more to come from OUR designers ;) Avi 11:48, 14 February 2008 (MST)

OK, this is being very simplistic, but it works. However, while discussing The Swan tonight, I said to Oddrun that she,(I mean The Swan ;)..), was the 'Flagship' for Shetland'. Which got me to thinking, could we build a silhouette of The Swan into our logo??
Also, and perhaps more importantly, I think now would be a good time to lose the '.com' from the title.
Shetlink managed to get rid of that tag very quickly, and very successfully. So do we really need to be any more than just Shetlopedia?

Swan on Flag

this is probably the best that I could do with my limited Photoshop skills (even had to get my mate on the phone!). I don't know if anything with/on the flag other than writing will be any good though. I like Robbies above idea, and think that perhaps it could be incorperated into mine.

I tried to come up with a very very simple idea. As is it believed 'less is more', I kinda like it. We can keep the .com or simply keep it as Shetlopedia. --Avi 13:52, 22 February 2008 (MST)

Its a good design, but I think that the black should be green. JAStewart 16:36, 22 February 2008 (MST)

Tried a lot with map images ... but then the Put Shetland out of the box ... logo was published and I gave up because that's "the only unique approach" ;-). In General: Map and/or flag do represent Shetland in general - but are they really something like a stand alone logo for the "Shetlopedia concept/approach" ??? Islandhopper 16:55, 22 February 2008 (MST)

How would that look with 'Britain' in a little box in the corner, or better still, 'The World' in a little box. ;) :) :))))
Something on the style of the logo for the Taking Shetland out of the Box: Island Culture and Shetland Identity page.. ;)
The Flag idea is good, but the problem with that is, that if it is reproduced in Black & White, it loses the context completely. The map doesn't have that problem.

Oops, got an edit conflict and didn't check what it was,,, but that proves that great minds think alike ;) ;)

How many non-Shetlanders would recognise an outline map of Shetland for what it is ? I would go for an outline image of a sixareen under sail and/or a shetland pony, the latter is always recognisable.
Heimdal 17:07, 22 February 2008 (MST)

I thought about a Yoal under sail, but that is the logo of the Ness Boating Club, :(, Pity.
Now,, a Sixareen under sail, would be a different matter...  :) :) :)

The idea of map is better than the flag I guess, how about this one with a slogan? Instead of here we are, we could also have find out more making it: Shetland - find out more shetlopedia --Avi 03:20, 24 February 2008 (MST)

PEOPLE??--Avi 11:47, 23 May 2008 (MDT)

I've been giving this a lot of thought recently, mainly because I would love to print some Shetlopedia T-Shirts before our summer holiday visit this year, now that I've learned how to print T-shirts.. :)
Islandhopper dismissed the idea of the "Shetland out of the box" format, but I still thing that something similar is the way to go. I'm not clever enough to do it, but I had an idea about the Shetland map, with Britain in a box, and the world in a smaller box. Or perhaps Shetland as a map of the world, with Britain and the Earth as moons... After all, the world really does revolve around Shetland, as far as we're concerned ;-) :-))) :-)))

How about the landscape version with "Shetland Rocks" and shetlopedia.com at the bottom. Morula 13:57, 23 May 2008 (MDT) (oops...meant the landmark version, or just a nice picture of a stack) Morula 13:58, 23 May 2008 (MDT)
