Before more boards are added, the first sections of the Baands must be fitted. Here, measurements are taken.
Marking baand positions across the hull.
Baands are approx. 36" (90cm) apart, as indicated by the pencil lines.
Template for a baand is tried in position.
Further trimming on the bandsaw is required.
Now a better fit is achieved.

The templates from each side are joined to form one unit.
The resulting shape is drawn on oak and cut out.
At the aft baand position, tar is applied to the boards.
The baand is then tapped down on the tar.
High spots are revealed as the tar is transferred to the underside of the oak and these are chiselled off. This process is repeated several times.
The height of the baand will be reduced by cutting back to the new line. Final size will be 2 3/8" (6cm) wide and 3" (7.5cm) deep.

The first baand is now fully fitted and the ends prepared for joining with the next sections which will extend further up the hull sides.
A similar baand is fitted in the forward section of the hull.
