The Skarphenden (alternatively Skarphedin), a wooden hulled schooner, laden with a mixed general cargo comprising meal, iron etc, 28 tons, built 1883, owner A. Asgier, Copenhagen, Denmark, registered in Isafjord (Igifjord??), Iceland, Captain M. Ossursson or Ossurasen, five crew.

While in passage from Copenhagen, Denmark to Isafjord (Igifjord??), Iceland on her maiden voyage this vessel wrecked at Dunrossness while seeking shelter during SE Force 9 wind conditions on March 10th 1884. Three of the crew were saved, but two were lost.

The exact location of the wreck is given in the records as "East Voe, Dunrossness/Sumburgh". No such place exists in Dunrossness. It might be reasonable to assume the location referred to is actually Voe on the east coast of Dunrossness, however other locations in Dunrossness with "Voe" in their names cannot be ruled out either.

The vessel became a total wreck, and what miscellaneous wreckage was managed to be salvaged was sold on March 15th, and realised the sum of £93.00.
