The Slavonic (formerly Teutonic), a steel hulled steamship laden with a cargo of timber, 2322 tons/3604 GRT, two boilers, 303 hp, 104.9 L x 15.24 B x 6.93 D metres, bulit 1905 W. Gray & Co Ltd. West Hartlepool, England, owner Russian Government, registered in Archangel, Russia, Captain Leaman or Leiman, thirty three crew.
While in passage from Archangel, Russia, via Lerwick, to Newcastle, England, this vessel was torpedoed by German submarine UC-40 at a position approx 6 cables SSW of Bard Head, Bressay on October 19th 1917.
She was taken under tow, but sank within 30 minutes. All of the crew were saved.
