The schooner Snaefell of Ramsey, Isle of Man was driven to Shetland by a hurricane in November 1888 and subsequently ran aground in the vicinity of Cruester/Gardie, Bressay on the 25th of the month.

She was refloated in January 1889, taken to Lerwick's West Dock for repairs, and departed for Ramsey in late March of the same year.

The master of the Snaefell, Daniel Corlett, aged 34, of Ramsey, Isle of Man, was drowned in Lerwick Harbour in the early morning of December 21st of the same year.
