St Ninian I (gross tonnage 702),was built in 1895 for the North Company. During both World Wars she was requisitioned as a naval transport vessel on the Scrabster to Longhope run. In WW2 she made over 3000 crossings of the Pentland Firth, covering over 100,000 miles. She was never a popular vessel as, although she was a good sea boat in a head sea, she had a vicious roll in any other conditions. She was not back in passenger service after 1945 and was broken up in Rosyth in 1948.
