Dr. Stanley Hay Umphray Bowie, one of the leading geochemists of his era, was born at Bixter, March 24th, 1917. He died on the 3rd of September, 2008, in Yeovil. Dr. Bowie led a facinating life. His father, Dr. James Cameron Bowie was a County Councillor and won two elections, in 1928 and 1929.
