The Star Of The West, a wooden hulled sailing smack, 15 net tons, built 1849, owner John Bruce (3), Sumburgh, Captain Ridland, three crew. While in the area, engaged in salvage operations on the wreck of the Wilhelmina foundered and sank while at anchor in North Haven, Fair Isle during SE Force 9 conditions on November 15th 1876. The crew saved themselves in their own small boat, but the vessel, along with her cargo or salvage equipment, salvaged materials, one horse and two sheep were lost.
