Stella Shepherd

Stella Shepherd is the Shetland-based author of Like A Mantle the Sea (1971). It is an autobiographical account of her time in Papa Stour in the 1960s, illustrated by her husband Dennis, with whom she took up the joint posts of missionary and schoolteacher. The Shetland Times issued a paperback reprint in 1999. Stella Shepherd also collaborated with George P. S. Peterson on Draa dee up, du's welcome!, 1985 (?)

The Shepherds lived for many years after their sojourn in Papa in Sandness in sight of the isle. Dennis sadly died on 15th April 2007, aged 86 years.
