Stella Sutherland
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit
Stella Sutherland, Shetland author and poet, one of the key Shetland writers of the latter half of the 20th century, was born in 1924, lived in Foula as a young woman and is a long term resident of Bressay. She writes poetry in both English and Shetland dialect, in which she displays a subtle mastery of verse and a finely spun intelligence. She has been involved with The New Shetlander since its birth in 1947: many of her poems and articles appeared in it.
Stella Sutherland's poems are collected in 'Aa My Selves: Poems 1940-1980' (Shetland Times, 1980) and 'A Celebration and other poems' (Bressay, Shetland, 1991)
She has recorded some of her poems on the cassette tape Driftwood Chair (Peeriewise Publications).
