Sumburgh Roost on a calm day seen from the Bridge of mv St Sunniva

Normally the Captains will say: "Sumburgh roost? Never heard about it!" Sometimes, on a calm day, when they are sure, that nothing will happen (and in case you are the "lucky, lonely tourist" on the bridge) they will point out to the open sea. Then you will discover a thin silver band of small breaking waves that indicate the tidal stream south of Sumburgh Head.

The stretch of water is locally called Da Roost.
