The Sylph, a wooden hulled sail smack laden with an unspecified cargo, 17 tons burthen, 11 L x 3 B metres, built 1836, Captain Irvine.

This vessel drove ashore in Ell Wick, the southern extremity of Sullom Voe and just south of Mavis Grind, during an E gale on October 20th 1864. It is unclear from the record whether the vessel was underway and the crew abandoned ship prior to the wrecking or if she drove from anchor, as the records only states that the "crew had landed previously".

An amount of cargo was salvaged from the wreck, but in a much damaged condition.

The Maria suffered a similar fate at Grutness during the same gale.
