23rd Jan
I have instead:
19th to 24th Jan: The Norwegian 30th MTB-Flottilla with MTB 618, MTB 619, MTB 620, MTB 623, MTB 625, MTB 626, MTB 627 and MM 630 (so eight boats) left Lerwick carried out several attacks on German marine communication posts in Sognefjord, on Stord and in Korsfjord. I have in addition:
The Royal Norwegian Navy's submarine KNM "Uredd" (Lt. Rören) left Lerwick on a special mission to Bodø with agents who should destroy a powerstation at Sulitjelma Mine close to the Swedish border. The boat never reached Bodø and supposedly hit a mine barrier laid by the German mine-layer Skagerrak on 7th Dec 1942 which was enforced just a few days earlier before the Uredd was due to arrive at Bodø.
- RE about the 23rd :I've also seen somewhere that there were 8 boats, but that was wrong in someway, I think it was something about one of the "numbers" had not arrived Shetland at that time...can't really remember, but whatever they attacced I found as "no interesting for Shetland" information, the same can be said about "Uredd"...It dissappered, and that's enough information. I have a book about the Norw. submarines in WWII, so I have seen this, or something like it before, but I don't think is neccesary to add. One or two liners are best in "Years", do I think, apart of something very special, that don't fit into any category as a page of it's own. ;-) I have a lot of notes and some half written articles about the different Nowegian units that were stationed in Shetland, one day I maybe find time to finish them ;-), and there things like this would maybe fit in, but there is a lot of other things that should be done first..., Cheers, Oddrun 13:39, 14 June 2007 (MDT)
