Talk:Adam Halcrow
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
Shetland Library has four other titles in the Shetland Collection by an A. Halcrow -
Big game
"Ju-ju" vengeance
Miss Mouat at sea: the runaway voyage of the "Columbine"
The mystery of the "Moorish Prince"
Can anybody confirm if they are also the work of Capt. A. Halcrow? Or is this another writer?
Possibly the same author, though not mentioned specifically in 'Sail Fishermen of Shetland'. The other work mentioned is 'Deep Sea Plunderings', described as " a collection of many authentic tales of the sea contributed by Capt Halcrow to magazines. These include two famous Shetland incidents - Betty Mouat's lone drift to Norway, and the suvival of the Faeroe smack 'Petrel' (Skipper Peter Hawick) after turning turtle- said to be the only recorded case of its kind."
Could be the magazine stories ? Need to check all the stories in 'D S P'.

- tanks t'de agen. The Miss Mouat title would make sense if it was his, and I suppose Moorish Prince is a ship's name, but .... Ju-ju vengeance?:) Ex-isle 17:21, 9 July 2007 (MDT)
This is fascinating, Heimdal, weel-hokkt :) And with the African connection the other books' titles start to make sense - he's a kind of Shetland Conrad, a man who'd really been to these places and worked there. Am looking forward to reading "JuJu vengeance" - the NLS should have it. Ex-isle 15:43, 25 July 2007 (MDT)
- sadly no copies of the novels(?) in the NLS - only the two listed here - will try university library later Ex-isle 01:21, 26 July 2007 (MDT)
