Shetland Directory says "Bolts" with no ' ! The same Directory has an advert from "Bolts Car Hire", no apostrophe there either !! Someone must have f***ed that sign on the pic, or maybe it is some dirt on it !!

I don't beleave it is a "fake" ;-) but leave it for the moment. I have just contacted them to check it out. We'll see, if they react. I think it's a prob of old spelling cs new spelling because my old stuff says that the last owner who sold the business to the actual owners was a certain George Bolt. Might be a nice detail to report this way or that way ... ;-)Islandhopper 12:27, 21 May 2007 (MDT)

The current owners John and Arlene Garrick, bought the business from George Sutherland who owns Bolts Shetland Ltd, the same as Bolts Electrical, Bolts minimarket, etc.. The sign above the business has always been wrong, thankfully the stickers on all their cars, and their advertisements in all local press have got it right..

PS.. Check their website for full details, and sign, with no apostrophe.. ;-)

>>>Check their website for full details ...

That's just why I have contacted them: The website logo changed somewhen after May 2003 to the new look without " ' " as I can see from print outs taken in April 2003 for my last tour but (as on the contact page) they are still posing below the old design with " ' " ... ;-) let's wait and see ... ;-) If neccessary I will change it back adding a note on the details - may be we get some of the business folks involved instead of doing the advert job for them ... ;-) Islandhopper 16:13, 21 May 2007 (MDT)

No matter when or why the name changed, it would seem that we are being rather heavy handed to be suggesting that all their current literature, website logo, advertising, etc.. is wrong. In the past when there has been an anomaly we have taken it to be that the business advertising was correct. In this case, the owners are unlikely to be offended, because of the signs, but we should never presume that we know better than a business. We should, as in the past, take the advertising of any said business to be what they want to see representing them.
If this happens again, and no doubt it will, the page should be as per advertising, and the business asked if they would like to add any details of when the name changed. In that way we might get someone saying, "The old sign was wrong", or some other reason for the change, but at least we would not be suggesting, by using a name different from their advertising, that they have got their advertising wrong.
As a result of this, I don't think I should waste time adding businesses, rather, I should leave it to them to add themselves, and get on with doing something which raises less chance of error and controversy. Like fishing.

sorted out ... ;-)

Hello, and thank you for your e-mail - in answer to your question,

it is now known as “Bolts Car Hire Ltd” being the full title of the company.

Bolt's Car Hire was the way the former owners spelt the name,

but this has not been used since 1995, it is an old sign that is still

on the roof of the building.

I hope that helps.

Best regards

Arlene

So, no "f***ed that sign on the pic", no fake or mistake ... just a piece of company history ... ;-) Islandhopper 08:25, 22 May 2007 (MDT)
