Talk:Grayfish

I'm pretty sure she was on oil 'stand by' duty at the time of the wreck. Five crew members would not be enough on a fishing trip.

- I see there is a lot of "unknown" on this wreck, the artice says that some records says wrecked in -72, and the museum has named her "Greyfish"...
Five crew on a boat of that size..... seems like you are right. Is there anyplace we can find out ??

She could well have been on 'stand by' work, the RCAHMS record simply states 'fishing trawler'. It's one of the most poorly recorded wrecks, for its age, I've seen on there, most say 1973, but Shetland Archives quoting Shetland Sub Aqua Club state 1972. The record from Ridley's diving book puts her off Scalloway, and the rest who agree on Cunningsburgh cannot agree whether she broke up on the shore or sank near the shore.
All of RCAHMS agree on 'Grayfish', but the museum pictures are roughly equally divided between 'Grayfish' and 'Greyfish'. They have numerous pictures of the 'Rangor' spelled 'Ranger' too though, so unfortunately such things seem to be par for the course.

Geordie Leith's book 'A Lerwick Lifeboatman's Story' has her as a 'standby trawler', and the date as 21st December 1973, presumably from the lifeboat launch records.

- I think someone like Geordie Leith who was active in the rescue services of the time, is definitely a far more reliable source than anyone RCAHMS have listened to so far on this one, I'll tidy up the entry accordingly. Thanks.
