Talk:Mareel
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
I didn't want to start a 2-line page again, as this is a lengthy topic and I'm aboot to go to bed. JAStewart 16:45, 8 April 2008 (MDT)
Good plan, we have one of those already. ;-)

- I had thought of renaming the 'Cinema and Music Venue' page, then seeing where we could take it from there, rather than making a new page.
It is going to be an important topic; either because it happens and amazes most of the population; or because it gets squashed by the Council vote in May, and for that reason amazes most of the population.
What ever we do, there is a lot of material available. Both for and against the Mareel proposal.

I think that we could lay the page out like this:
<Description>
Contents |
History
Arguements For
Arguements Against
Council Vote Results
External Links
What do we think?
Neutrality.
While I'm obviously for Mareel, I think that we need to make this article as neutral as possible. I think that comments like "Either way the venue can only serve to strengthen Shetland Music on a global scale." is more to the pro-Mareel side, and should probably be removed. I'll add a few Pro's a Con's now, I will probably add more pro's because I know more. JAStewart 11:17, 19 April 2008 (MDT)
- Ok I've added a basic outline of the positive and negative aspects with Mareel. Please fix it if I have not been neutral. I didn't write as much on the con's because I don't know them as well.
You'll maybe have trouble believing this James. But apart from the price tag, which is 1/4 of a state of the art "New Anderson High", and a few minor niggles. I'm more likely to be adding pro comments to this page.
Now, don't bloody laugh too much. :-)))) :-))))

- I know you're a music man. You like good ol' willy! JAStewart 14:41, 19 April 2008 (MDT)
The idea of having the pro- and contra- arguments presented issue by issue is important. I'm wondering though if this way is best. The problem is that for a specific issue it means the issue needs to be listed in both sections and this leads to a separation of the pro- and anti- views. For example, at the moment James has concentrated on the venue's music role. The public opinions on the lack of existing facilities for this are quite different to the discussions on the cinema element. It is very common to hear "I'm all for the .... part, but I don't think ... is needed." When I looked at adding info on the cinema debate, I saw that it will become quite difficult to add it with the way the page is currently structured. Would it not be better to have a section on the arguments with each issue taken in turn and the pro- and anti- positions listed within each?

- I'd be all in favour of deleting the cinema bit from the building. ;-) But seriously, you're right EM. There needs to be separation of the issues involved. I think there would be far more people in the pro camp for Mareel if the cinema wasn't included.
In fact, if the space wasted on the cinema section was added to the music section, we'd maybe get WILLIE to visit. ;-) :-) :-)
Just 12 days now until my next Willie show,,,, so apologies if his name happens to drop in every now and then :-)

- Maybe we could add an "Other Issues" bit below? JAStewart 15:35, 19 April 2008 (MDT)
It's an issue with so many facets that it's almost impossible to know how to lay the page out.
I think, as it is, will do for now, but perhaps mention needs to be made in each section of the differences in opinion, or need for, the music venue or the cinema. I may be wrong, but I would think personally that there is much greater support for the music venue than the cinema.
Now,,,I'm going to watch a nice DVD ;-) (not a WILLIE one this time) :-)

Page Update.
I've updated it a bit, and changed the wording in a lot of the old content to be past tense.
It needs a serious look at by somebody who knows a bit more about the subject.

- Thanks for the spell-check Brian. :-)
I must get a UK-English spell-checker for this computer. :-)))
