Two pics added, any good ? I have some more from the same practise they did on my boat in Breiwick. Oscar Charlie set a record for the number of people rescued in a single lift, at the rescue from the 'Lunokhods' at the Bressay Lighthouse, but I can't remember how many crew were involved. The flight was short, just about 50 metres as I recall. The info must be somewhere ? Heimdal 14:21, 21 March 2007 (MDT)

Googled 'lunokhods + oscar charlie' and found this www.mcga.gov.uk/c4mca/lrgtxt/ mcga-dops_pr_newsroom-press-releases-release.htm?mcga_news_id=3122&month..

56 on board !

Also we musn't forget the 2nd aircraft "Lima Charlie", I don't think its worth making a separate page because hardly anybody knows there is any aircraft other than Oscar Charlie. Even SIBC get that bit wrong 9 out of 10 times :-), I think I'll just make Lima Charlie a paragraph of the same page.. What do you think

Fantastic, Robbie just asks and some nice pics just pooop up !! And they are very good !! Can hear the 'copter!!Had to add them at once ;-), Cheers !! Oddrun 14:27, 21 March 2007 (MDT)

Yup, great Pics Robbie 14:28, 21 March 2007 (MDT)

Agree about Lima Charlie, it gets forgotten too often. As to the 56 rescued, that cannot be in one lift, there is not enough space in OC. That must be the total rescued.

Robbie, you have the 9th of November 1993 on both years and wrecks....Oddrun 15:19, 21 March 2007 (MDT)

Good point about dates, that came from the MCA press releases, which have a lot of mistakes in them, they even have 2 different years for OC arriving at Sumburgh, I hope I picked the right one. I'll have to do more checking..

And I did say 56 on one mission, which is correct, not sure of detail, I think they were all landed nearby a few at a time,, perhaps Heimdal knows the detail.

Information Update

Thanks to whoever updated the info. A great help. :-) :-)

I suggest that:

  • We move this page, leaving the redirect, to "Oscar Charlie - GBDOC". Since the new aircraft are to carry the same names.
Then a new page can be created for the new aircraft "Oscar Charlie - G-CGOC"

OR

  • Should we consider moving this page to become a section, using the "redirect to section command which now works", to an overall page called something like "Coastguard Rescue Helicopters", where a section could be created for the operation in general, and sections for both the old aircraft, and both the new aircraft.

I think possibly the second suggestion may be the best option.
Any thoughts????
