Contacted one of the Faroese newspapers to ask their readers if there is someone remembering names or to add further details to the site .. ;-) Islandhopper 16:08, 26 February 2007 (MST)

Back row, extreme left is Mervin Dimon, also one of the fair headed ones is Manbjorn Mortenson, but I am no longer sure of which one. These two stayed with my parents, Manbjorn just the once, but Mervin visited several times and brought his wife Anny and son Eiyulf (spelling ?)as wellHeimdal 16:34, 26 February 2007 (MST)

To make it clear, Mervin is one of the players, not the man wearing the hat. On the extreme right of the pic is Sandy Wright of Lerwick Spurs FC, also I will show a copy of the pic to Wibby Leask here in Lk, he played against this and other Faroe teams.Heimdal 16:42, 26 February 2007 (MST)

... uuooops there was an edit conflict;-) I just wanted to say, wait and see. It's sometimes funny what comes out of a scan of an old pic or postcard as I've learned when engaged with the Dutch Booms ... :-D Islandhopper 16:48, 26 February 2007 (MST)

Hello Wolfgang!
I know some of the players on the picture. I am from Tvoroyri...
The tall guy in the back, standing next to the lady, is Mervin Dimon... He is still alive and lives in Tvoroyri still...

The Faeroese newspaper Norslysid has placed a question including the pic on their main page. see. There is another response when you will follow the links given but my Faeroese is too poor to get it right. Perhaps Oddrun can help??? ;-) Islandhopper 14:34, 27 February 2007 (MST)

Can't find any pic or responses .....Oddrun 15:05, 27 February 2007 (MST)

Sroll down the main page to Gomul mynd av TB then follow link Les meira... then scroll down again and follow Kjak. 1 Innlegg and the link Mittasti undir liðin av dámuni Mikkj.... Islandhopper 15:11, 27 February 2007 (MST)

I give up !!Can't get into that link  ;-), sorry, ..Oddrun 15:26, 27 February 2007 (MST)

There seem to be some connecting probs ... may be that's why they are looking to a new fibre cable via Shetland ... ;-) Islandhopper 15:35, 27 February 2007 (MST)

I have e-mailed my niece in Iceland to watch the page and let me know what the replies are. I think Faroese is written very much like Icelandic.Heimdal 15:51, 27 February 2007 (MST)

This is part of an e-mail received today from my niece...

>  >I'll check back and see if more readers comment on www.nordlysid.fo >but so far you have three names but only two "locations" :) > >Mittastaræð undir liðin av dámuni: >Mikkjal Houmann (Mikkjal post) > >"Middle row next to the lady: >Mikkjal Houmann (Mikkjal postman)" - presumably post as in postman >but I am not a 100% sure because in very old Icelandic postur also >means piece of wood standing straight up and is sometimes used for >the vertical bits in a goal so maybe,  just maybe, the nickname >refers to him being the goalkeeper - unlikely but I don't actually >know faroeese so better safe than sorry :) > >Eg meini hatta er Heri Mortensen, fyrrv. stjóri á Atl. Airways.. >  >"I think this is Heri Mortensen, ex. CEO of Atlantic Airways" - >doesn't say where in the crowd he is, I don't know if the title of >the post is a clue, TB ... it doesn't mean anything to me;)) >   >and lastly: > >Aftasta ræð undir liðuni á dámuni er mervin Dimon >  >"Back row next to the lady is Mervin Dimon" >

So we can confirm Mervin Dimon, and Mikkjal Houmann, and I suspect Heri Mortensen is the man in the hat, the 'manager'.Heimdal 09:22, 28 February 2007 (MST)

Oops.. forgot , we know Sandy Wright too, and Wibby Leask should be back in Shetland late on Thursday, if he has any details to offer Heimdal

Here is a link to allthe names http://nordlysid.arguepoint.com/main.cfm?articleid=7228&DiscussionId=12085 , listed from back left:

Cheers , Oddrun 15:03, 6 March 2007 (MST)

Yep, when I showed the pic to Wibby Leask he knew most of the names right away, and said it was 1956. The team which visited in 1951 was the Faeroe 'National' team, TB visited in 1956 as a club team. The only names he did not know straight off were Georg Thomsen's wife and Torkil Mortensen, as this was the only visit he made to Shetland. Heri Mortensen was later the CEO of Atlantic Airways and Sverre Midjaar became a politician.Heimdal 15:48, 6 March 2007 (MST)

I feel clever, I managed to understand most of what that man had written..;-)..,but not all !!Oddrun 15:52, 6 March 2007 (MST)

Forgot to say, I had this from my niece earlier today.. >I just noticed a really long reply on Norðlýsið website - I have to >make a speech tomorrow, in public, so tonight I'll be very busy >chewing my fingernails but after that (probably on Thursday) I can >translate the reply for you properly, I hope that is okey? > So hopefully she will get around to replying with more detail later (if her finger nails let her ;-) Heimdal 16:00, 6 March 2007 (MST)

Now that we have the names we should put them on the page and make a little bit of text around it. I will write to Nordlysid to say thx on behalf of the shetlopedia team later this week ;-) ... and many thx to Heimdal's niece for the translation ;-) Islandhopper 16:05, 6 March 2007 (MST)
