'stitching' smell ?

I think he meant "Stench", or stinking smell, or the smell I remember was a "Shitie Smell". Hit wis brawly rough whit ever wye you smell hit,, oops spell hit. :-)

The following bit doesn't read right, suggest it needs changing but not sure how: --"the harvests were of the land were lost"--- Also the use of the word 'wreckage' doesn't read right, should that just be wreck??

... just "crops were lost/spoilt" ...?

wreckage covers all aspects: a) the vessel that wrecked, b) the action/the process of "wrecking" and c) damaged load / load washed ashore (see Channel a couple of months ago); should refer to either the boat or the action.
