Before I forget: ;-)
Topographical names (placenames) are in most of the sources = Ordnance Survey's spellings. That is in general two words like "May Wick" or "Esha Ness" for a single topographical feature - one word for the names of settlements and / or areas with names derived from that feature like "Maywick" or "Eshaness" etc. We should have a note about that somewhere in the placenames section because it is always confusing folks / readers from abroad ... ;-) Islandhopper 00:56, 10 April 2007 (MDT)

Yup.. OK,, sussed what was meant now.. I think that in place names such as Maywick, we should be adding the line "in a bay or inlet calles May Wick" that would help explain the place name as well as giving a link to the name of the inlet. I'll look into doing that on the coastal "settlements" pages.
We already came across this problem with Burravoe and 'Burra Voe', see talk on that one. We need a category to cover inlets, voes, sounds, bays, etc.. Any ideas????
