Talk:The Shetland Bus
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit
I notice you've been moving 'Shetland Bus' to 'The Shetland Bus'. Here are a couple of tips that you might find useful if you have to do that sort of thing again.
Rather than copying text from one page to another, then deleting the old text, you can use the 'Move' tab at the top of the original page. Then all you have to do is type in the name of the new page and everything is done for you automatically. If the new page already exists, then it will ask you to confirm whether or not you want to overwrite it.
The other thing you can set up is a redirect from 'Shetland Bus' to 'The Shetland Bus', so if anyone still goes to the old page, they will be automatically forwarded onto the new one. To set this up, go to the 'Shetland Bus' page and type in
#Redirect[[The Shetland Bus]]

Thanks for the tips Gary,
Oddrun reminded me that there should be The.. to make the page title look right. I had started the page without doing a search or I would have seen correct name for page in the first place.
Robbie 10:25, 3 October 2006 (BST)
I've added the Redirect from the old to the new page. So if anyone still looks for the old page, they'll get the new one.

- Found by chance a short note on a movie site about Howarth's books telling that they became the basis for the scriptbook of an US-movie Suicide Mission (1956 Dir. Michael Forlong) in which several Bus men were engaged as actors, too. Any proof for this??? Islandhopper 23:37, 3 October 2006 (BST)

It is true ,Leif Larsen played himself, and so did many of the others, thoght about adding it later. Oddrun 11:45 , 3 October 2006 (BST)
Oddrun,
The page is lookin fantastic. I will try to get picture of Norway house etc. next time I am in Scalloway when the light is good. The page would be better with a few more pictures. I thought adding the plaque pictures would help fill white space, and actually I think it adds to the atmosphere of the article.
Gary,
Some more pics from Lunna would be great, when you get home, especially in the 'Overview' section.

Robbie
The pics looks good ! If Gary can get some from the churchyard in Lunna that would be great too. There are two Norwegian wargraves and a plaque there. I've somwhere seen a pic of the church with Lunna House in the background. It showed how isolated the place was...Is it possible to put two pics side by side?? I'm searcing for pics of the boats..the more pics we have the better it will look !! And I'm wating for more stuff about the crewmen.
Oddrun 22:25 4 October 2006 (BST)
- @all:
- Site looks better from day to day ...
- could upload a different pic of Prince Olav pier ... the pic in the Scalloway site as a close up from different angle and a pic of Norway house as well (dated 1998 or so, have to look)
- I have left a note on the talk page of the German wikipedia Shetland Bus site to update their info according to this one ... ;-) Islandhopper 00:25, 5 October 2006 (BST)
Oddrun,
I thought of a new picture today which would look good in the Overview section, "Flemington". But strangely for Shetland I couldnt get a picture for the trees. I'll get one later when the leaves fall.
Just realised if I keep correcting your spelling you will be fluent in English as well as Shetland afore wir traik sooth i January, :-)

Both Flemington,Dinapore and Norway house should be there. Maybe we can move Hitra to the 'boat' part when I've done something with that.Waiting for info ! And I have wiped my glasses now ;) !!

Oddrun,
I think I've corrected most of the spacing errors, It is damned hard to see the spacing because of the Wiki thingies. I've found that printing it out makes it easier to see.
I wondered about moving the Hitra picture but it looks so good where it is..
But I did think of one possibility for a headline picture....
What about a close up photo of the boat on top of the Scalloway memorial???
It wouldn't be hard to airbrush out the background of the picture.. What do you think??

Islandhopper,
A picture of the slipway would be great. The one on the Scalloway page is good but perhaps a different angle may be better if you have one.
Insert it after the Lunna Kirk one and before the Plaque one, that should look good.
Robbie 20:19, 8 October 2006 (BST)
Robbie
What I thought was that when we gets more pics, 'Dinapore', 'Kergord', the slipway..,then it may be better to move it to the 'boat' thing, I'm working with that :-) , lots of stuff. And I will try get a pic of the monument in Ålesund,..we also have monuments :-) Your idea about a heading is good ! Thought of that too ;)..I'm waiting for some books to confirm some of the things I'm working with..this is endless :-)

Is it possible to move the 'Boats' below the 'Lost crewmen'???I think it fits better there.., with the'Lost Boats' after,..The crewmen are more important than the boats..It was my intension to put it there, but I didn't think about it when you had made the headline :-) !
I shall put in more abot 'Men' later ;-) !

Marie,
Where did you want me to put the Alesund monument ????,,,, The picture I mean. ;-D
Robbie 20:42, 21 November 2006 (GMT)
Oddrun,
I'd been to the other sites for a look hence forgetting and using your middle name..
We'll keep it Viking here,,,, ;-D
Robbie 20:48, 21 November 2006 (GMT)
Once again..,I think that the pic of the whole monument (The North Sea Monument !!!),fits in boats lost and the English texted plaque too,,T he pic of just the top would be nice on top of the page ,in the 'contents' area..
Oddrun 20:58, 21 November 2006 (GMT)
Ok,,, I'll see what I can do,, Robbie 21:13, 21 November 2006 (GMT)
- Link http://www.fmu.mil.no/ etc. no longer available??? Alsways got error messages 404 Islandhopper 15:52, 27 November 2006 (GMT)
Found one that is working,;-) ,Oddrun 17:51, 27 November 2006 (GMT)
How do I keep it over the LINE ;-)???Oddrun 11:11, 13 December 2006 (GMT)
Don't know how to do that, but I think it would look better below the line. which would avoid a lot of white space... Robbie 14:46, 13 December 2006 (GMT)
What I thought was to get one of the top of the Scalloway Monument in the middle..also two side by side..I know that can be done, but if it's not possible to keep them above the line ,I better delete this one..;-)>br>Oddrun 19:36, 13 December 2006 (GMT)
I can see exactly what you mean Oddrun, it's the same as I wanted to do weeks ago but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I will look at some other Wiki pages and see if I can find an example of how to do it. I previewed a few ideas on a blank page, but nothing worked. I wanted to put the 2 monument pictures at the top with the contents list, and perhaps some artwork, but I failed,,, so far...
Robbie 20:31, 13 December 2006 (GMT)
We'll wait and see.;-), but I managed to upload and add a pic,not bad for me :D
Oddrun 20:36, 13 December 2006 (GMT)
Oddrun,
After exhaustive research, which involved 2 bottles of Becks, :-D .. I think I may have found the answer. There is a way to put pictures, larger than thumbs, in horizontal alignment. The wiki help pages advise against it but I have found a site which does it and it works OK. I will try to mimic their commands and see what happens. I will just try it on a blank preview so I don't screw anything up. The page I saw had text between the pictures so it must be possible to insert a text box for artwork. If it works it is exactly what we need.
See dee eftir,
Robbie 21:34, 13 December 2006 (GMT)
Thinking 'B's often helps .;-), I'm thinking of how to split up the page,I saw a way to do it on the wiki-help page, but I have not dared to do anything yet, ..,one of the 'pediapages,I don't remember wich, was something with waterskng, has text betwen pics, but that was left and right pics,we cant do that on the top part... GOOD LUCK !!

Oddrun 21:48, 13 December 2006 (GMT)
- >>>There is a way to put pictures, larger than thumbs, in horizontal alignment.
- That's right. "Thumbs" sets the picture size automatically to 150px or so ... add after thumbs "|number of pix potrait format you want" ... may be "|350px" ... so by adding "|left|350px" you place a pic to the left boerder of the site ... followed by the addition to the next foto "|right|350 px" there will be no space for any text between the pics ...
Tray to check out in the sandbox ... ;-) Gosh, my mum, sometimes called surfin granman, gets 87 tomorrow/today ... so I'm a bit out of order ... ;-) Islandhopper 23:20, 13 December 2006 (GMT)
Wolfgang,
Confused is right.. :-D Do you smoke the same stuff as Willie Nelson ?? HO HO !!
Many congratulations to your mother, may she have many more happy years.
I know about putting 2 pictures side by side by using the left or right command, but some wiki sites have a text box between, that is what we need to find how to do...
More research required..,
And again, Happy Birthday Islandhopper's mother.
Robbie 23:36, 13 December 2006 (GMT)
Wolfgang , HAPPY birthday to your mum from me tooo :-),I leave the trying to Robbie...I'm sure he finds out..I'm just confused of the picture thing...
