Talk:Voe Marina & Pier Trust
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
Perhaps my pooter needs a good kicking,,, but can you tell me what you see when you click this page??? It says Voe Marina & Pier Trust, but all I see is Voe Marina with a no text message... Although the previous title page shows all details I have added.... effing confused.... Is this still an ampersand problem??

The version with time 16.06 looks OK, the later version 16.17 just shows heading Voe Marine with no descr.Heimdal 10:51, 11 March 2007 (MDT)
Thanks,, happy to know it's not just me ;-),, think I'll just leave Gary to sort it out.. I remember this happening once before,, something to do with a page which had been deleted before,,, can't remember.

I got the same problem with a shop in Lerwick..Dee & Jays, or something like it..and both that page with no text and the old without the '&' is on the list of businesses...thought of mention it, but forgot...;-) ! Cheers , Oddrun 11:43, 11 March 2007 (MDT)
Same here with M & R Gair, nothing appeared after the initial M, Gary fixed it ;-)Heimdal 14:42, 11 March 2007 (MDT)
- At about that time I had great probs to reach Shetlopedia anyway. Copied the last version that looked ok and pasted it to the empty page. ;-) Islandhopper 15:59, 11 March 2007 (MDT)
Yup,!!! that works but now we have two pages with same info, and the same problem as Oddrun had with Cee & Jays. I hate ampersands now,,, :-)
But looking on the bright side.. we know that Gary has something to sort out on his next day off,,,, :-)))

I have saved the content of Voe Marina externally for the worst case of cases. We should see to get rid of all pages with file names containing "&" - there allways the same thing is happening: the file name (identically with the new created page name) is saved correctly but later on the page name contains the word(s) before that "&" only and thus filename (as shown on category pages) and the factual page name are no longer the same and thus the whole system gets somehow confused: interwiki linkings refere to the page name but don't allow access to the file to delete it. Yeah, ;-), I guess it is better to leave it to Gary to find out..., there are a lot of them now...
CHEERS ! , Oddrun 17:21, 11 March 2007 (MDT)
As a temporary measure only, could we not use + instead of the ampersand, then change them when we find the solution ? Heimdal 18:00, 11 March 2007 (MDT)
Why don't let all of them be until Gary have figured out what to do !!, If we go on with those deleting and changing things we only makes a lot of mess ,,,;-))), Cheers , Oddrun 18:04, 11 March 2007 (MDT)
The way Mediawiki deals with ampersands causes this problem. It's a known issue with mediawiki, but there must be a known solution as Wikipedia has sorted the problem on their own website.
I installed something that was supposed to fix the problem last week, (when I worked on the M & R Gair page, but it wasn't 100% succesful, more like 15% I'd guess. I'll try to find something else out tonight.
