Originally filmed on 16mm colour during 1956 and 1957, this is a semi-professional production transferred on to a 56 minute running time VHS PAL format video by the original cameraman in 1997, and self-published as Marisco Productions.

Although the vast majority of the footage concentrates on all aspects of life on Foula at that time, both of the inhabitants and the natural world, the video spends a short period at the beginning recording a few of the locations the cameraman passed on his journey from Sumburgh to Walls to catch the island's ferry. Scalloway and Walls are among those shown, as is the first film footage ever taken of a Bearded Seal anywhere in the U.K.

Also included is footage of a performance of the Foula Reel dance, and a wide variety of birdlife on the island, including the Great Skua; Arctic Skua; Red-throated Diver; Red-necked Phalarope; Black Guillemot; Arctic Tern; Puffin; Gannet; Cormorant etc.
