Lunnasting Stone

You said this was "hidden away in a museum in Edinburgh." I'm living there just now - presumably you're talking about NMS? If it's on public display, I'd be more than happy to take a picture of it. It is a shame that it has not been returned to Shetland, but there you go... --Pett 10:55, 16 May 2009 (MDT)

I investigated this today. It's next to the Bressay Stone. I could attempt to photograph it, the only thing is that the lighting there is quite low, so I don't know how well the ogham would show up.--Pett 08:33, 14 July 2009 (MDT)
Pett, thank you for the update. Any photograph of the Lunnasting and Bressay stones would be more than we have at the moment. If you have time to do this then it would be much appreciated; by Shetlopedia and by the Lunnasting History Group. Cheers. GaryWiki 09:27, 14 July 2009 (MDT)

Show/Hide

Gary, is it possible for you to install(?) a template thing which allows Shetlopedia to use the show/hide function?

I think maybe the best demonstration of this can be found here: [[1]]

The collapsable boxes are brilliant, particularily the "Luiz Felipe Scolari navigation boxes" which particularily helps to keep everything tidy. I have been looking in to see how to get it to work but no luck yet.

He said he'd have a look, but I don't think it is available yet: Talk:Lerwick Up Helly-Aa Videos

I did look into this before, but I think the problem was that I have to upgrade to a newer version of Mediawiki before it'll work. I'll look into it again and see what I can do.
GaryWiki 13:01, 27 November 2009 (MST)
What is the issue with upgrading to a new MW?
JAStewart 13:11, 27 November 2009 (MST)
More damned complications. Do we need them? Joking ;-) :-))))
Said by somebody who's too old to learn anything new. ;-)

Daylight Savings Time

Hi G-man,

I see that the site hasn't taken Daylight savings into account - is this something you need to change or do we?

Spammers

Hi Gary, I see you've been dealing with the advertisers (or whatever they are)... I don't know if it's possible, but I have found with web forums that a three strikes policy works. I used to moderate the first three posts of any new member. No spammer could be bothered posting three sensible posts in my experience.--Pett 09:26, 11 July 2012 (MDT)

Upgrade

Hi Gary, when can we expect Shetlopedia to be back to functioning normality?

James (talk) 04:39, 14 August 2012 (MDT)

Hi James,

It's getting there. This upgrade was a major one because we were on such an old version of MediaWiki. We also had a lot of customisation which was necessary to deal with a lot of things that I had set the old version of Mediawiki to do. The upgrade has so far taken 2-3 days because eventually it became obvious that it was better to start fresh with a completely new install, and then migrate everything over into the new version. This is now mostly completed, and the website is up and running and available for viewing. I am still setting up all the spam prevention though as all the old spam prevention measure have gone with the upgrade. As soon as that's done then I'll open the wiki up again to all users. At the moment only Sysups can make edits. Also, the forums still have to be fixed.

Within two minutes of the upgraded wiki going live, we were spammed by an unregistered user. The default for new installations of Mediawiki is to allow unregistered users to edit. This shows how badly we're being targetted by spammers now. When I look at the website statistics, we're getting constant spam attacks with quite a few every hour. The fact that only a few each day were getting through shows how succesful the spam protection was. Hopefully with the latest MediaWiki upgrades and the new spam protection available, we'll get back to a spam free website.

Can't access...

The politics pages! I can't seem to get into them at all right now. What's up?

James (talk) 08:30, 20 August 2012 (MDT)

Any luck with the politics pages? Can always access a google cache of the page but it would be out of date

'Postlink' rights

Hi Gary, tried to edit a page (adding a few ext. links) and I received an error message saying that I had no Postlink rights. James (talk) 04:06, 1 October 2012 (MDT)
