Uyeasound Up Helly Aa 2012
The 2012 Uyeasound Up Helly Aa took place on Friday 17th February, a week later than usual. The Guizer Jarl was Tommy Strachan and this years galley was named Fjell Hammer. The Jarl's Squad comprised 17 members.
During the day the Jarl's Squad and galley visited the Baltasound Junior High School and the Nordalea Care Centre. Following the closure of the Uyeasound Primary School the Jarl's Squad visited homes in the Uyeasound area during the afternoon followed by the Uyeasound Public Hall where the Jarl and his squad held an open afternoon for folk to come and visit the squad and have 'refreshments'. The Galley accompanied the Jarl's Squad during the day.
In the evening the 13 squads numbering 130 guizers mustered at the galley shed from 7pm onwards and as usual there were some exceptional guizer suits on display. The evening weather was poor with a strong wind & rain but the light-up began as usual at 8pm and the guizers and galley, marched along the coast road from the galley shed around the Ayre of Uyeasound. The procession was shortened due to the weather with the guizers marching directly to the burning site & missing the turning movement at the Uyeasound Hall. The guizers marched around the galley and threw their torches fairly quickly into the galley. After the burning the squads made their way to the Uyeasound Hall to perform their evening acts.

The Galleys
This years Galley was named Fjell Hammer. This years 'burning' galley on the beach adjacent to Easter Loch, also named Fjell Hammer, had been scummel painted and was an excellent copy of the non-burning galley.
