Viking Energy Ltd is the company formed to represent Shetland Islands Council’s interests in large-scale wind energy development in Shetland.

The Viking Windfarm is a project of a magnitude not seen since the development of Sullom Voe Oil Terminal. The proposed windfarm, representing the next generation of energy project, is being advanced in the spirit of the historic agreements reached by Shetland’s public guardians in the early 1970’s and seeks to harness Shetland’s unique resources for local benefit. The involvement by Shetland Islands Council as developer as well as host gives the Shetland community a level of control, which can ensure there is full public consultation with full environmental awareness and the growth of a local industry with a genuine competitive advantage.

The project will provide direct and indirect economic returns to the community and make Shetland’s world-class wind regime serve Shetland.
