Voe, ( Old Norse : Vagr = Bay ), Lies at the head of a long inlet called Olna Firth, it has been an important centre for trade for centuries and was especially so during the Faroe cod fisheries. It has been the home of the firm Adie's of Voe for almost as long, as commemorated in Laureen Johnson's book.
Its old pub, the Voe Tavern, has now been converted into housing, however there is a bar in the Pierhead restaurant.
The old pier has recently been replaced by a new concrete pier and an associated small boat Marina.
Voe is home to local artist Wibby (Wilbert Thompson) and poet Laureen Johnson.
