Wader
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
A wader, wading bird or shorebird (US) is a member of the charadiiformes which is found on beaches or mudflats. They form a kind of link between more land based birds such as corvidae, and birds such as seagulls, which are capable of spending long periods at sea.
Notable waders include the plovers, lapwings, oystercatchers, phalaropes, and sandpipers.
