History
The building, formerly the Royal Hotel, was converted in to a residential home for the elderly in the 1960's, largely as a result of the efforts of Walter J. Gray, and bears his and his wife's name as an acknowledgement of that. A native of the Scalloway, after spending many years in Canada pursuing a successful career in radio telecommunications, Gray retired to the village in 1962.
