The village of Weisdale lies approximately 10 miles west of Lerwick on the road to the West Mainland, at the east side of Weisdale Voe. The main housing estate is Kalliness. Other notable housing areas are Kallibrig and, Upper and Lower Hellister.
In recent years there have been several instances of dolphins becoming stranded in Weisdale Voe.
Weisdale is also the name given to the surrounding parish, which extends from Gruti Field in the north where it borders Aithsting and Delting, to the north road eastwards in Pettadale bordering Nesting, to Russa Ness along the ridge of the Weisdale hills, and Strom in the south east, where it borders Tingwall. Weisdale Kirk is a little north of the voehead.
The Weisdale valley was the scene of a series of evictions in favour of sheep in the 19th C., a subject dealt with in John J. Graham's fiction.
