This small West side settlement, on the north side of the West Mainland, at the head of West Burra Firth, an inlet off St Magnus Bay, has a pier for fishing boats and a ro-ro ferry terminal from which the ferry sails to Papa Stour.

It was the home territory of the artist, and cartoonist, F. S. Walterson, who died in 2008.
