This small West side settlement, on the north side of the West Mainland, at the head of West Burra Firth, an inlet off St Magnus Bay, has a pier for fishing boats and a ro-ro ferry terminal from which the ferry sails to Papa Stour.
It was the home territory of the artist, and cartoonist, F. S. Walterson, who died in 2008.
The Dolores wrecked in the firth on 30th October 1880.
