Wick of Skaw
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit
Wick of Skaw, (HP662165), is a small bay on the northeast corner of Unst, in Shetland.
Under normal conditions there would be a beach of flat rocks and stones, but due to erosion of older inward lying dunes there is a stretch of nice sandy beach between small rocky outcrops.
To the west of the beach lies the settlement of Skaw, the most northerly settlement in Britain.
The Iho, anchored in a waterlogged condition, sank in the West Bight of Skaw on December 28th 1839.
