William A. S. Burgess

William A. S. Burgess is the author of Hinniwirs: poems and sketches/Hiawatha, T and J Manson, Lerwick, 1924.

He was the youngest of three brothers born to John Burgess, a tailor in Lerwick, and his wife Margaret Pottinger of Baccasetter, Dunrossness. Haldane Burgess was the oldest of the three. William was born on Christmas Day, 1866.

William Burgess married Jane Manson, (b. 4.11.1866, Commercial Street, Lerwick) on the 24th of August 1897. She was the younger sister of the publishers the Manson brothers, and of Eliza, who married the author James Inkster. They lived in the South Haa, North Roe, where Inkster hailed from, and had two daughters, Geira (1898-1961) and Hilda (1902-1984).

Burgess died on the 23rd of October, 1934.
