William Porteous

William Porteous, Shetland author represented in A Shetland Anthology, was born William George Porteous on the 11th of November 1886 at Eastwick, Ollaberry, Northmavine, the oldest child of six to William Porteous, (b.3.9.1854), Bordigarth, Northmavine and his wife Margaret Blance Ratter, (b.25.11.1860, Eastwick, Ollaberry).
He died of meningitis while still a young man, on the 13th of July 1917 at Queyfirth, Northmavine. At the time he was a Leading Seaman in the Royal Naval Reserve, HMT Goissa.
