Yell Sound, (HU455790), is the stretch of water between the Shetland Mainland and the island of Yell.
A ro-ro ferry service operates across Yell Sound from Toft on the Mainland, to Ulsta on Yell. The tankers for the port of Sullom Voe arrive and depart through the north end of Yell Sound.
There are several small uninhabited islands in Yell Sound, including Samphrey, Bigga, and Brother Isle.

The Ellen wrecked on the Rumble in the sound on April 27th 1896, as did the Ibis on March 21st 1904 and the Sanguine on March 20th 1931, the Robert Lea wrecked on Staura Baa on June 28th 1914, the Provider sank close to Sweinna Stack on February 4th 1976, and the Morning Star also sank approx 0.9 - 1 mile NW of the Muckle Holm Lighthouse on September 28th 1982. .
