John Bruce, ninth Laird of Sumburgh, married Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Hunter of Lunna.

An unidentified vessel, thought perhaps to have been in passage from Denmark to Iceland to collect King's dues, wrecked on what is described as the "north side of the entrance to Uyea Sound". This description could arguably be applied to much of the Unst coast of Skudda Sound, much of the SW coast of the isle of Uyea and the coast of Unst in the vicinity of Heogland. All of the crew perished.
