Fox Lane starts between 157, (Malcolmson & Co.'s shop), and 159, (Michael Inkster & Co.), Commercial Street, and runs upward to the parking area east of Hillhead.

Prior to 1845 this lane was known as both Sutherland's Closs and Manson's Closs, in that year it was renamed Fox Lane by the Commissioners of Police after the statesman Charles James Fox.
