The Souma (formerly Rostock and Indra) a steel hulled steamship, 89.91 L x 13.41 B x 5.63 D metres, two boilers, 190 hp, 2200 GRT, built 1907 Forg. & Chant. de la Mediterranean, Le Havre, France, registered in Archangel, Russia, owner Archangel & Murman Steam Navigation Co. Archangel, Russia, Captain N. Klukvin.

While in passage from Archangel, Russia for Lerwick, this vessel was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U 94, Captain Alfred Saalwächter, at a position stated as 61.34N, 00.55W, which falls very approximately at 50 miles N of Muckle Flugga, Unst, on July 30th 1917.

The same submarine sank the Manchester Inventor, and the Kildin in the same general area the same day, and had sunk the Adalia and the Ingeborg in the same general area the previous day.
